Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 2009-11 to 2011-12, on medium black calcareous soil (Typic Ustocrepts) with hybrid Bt cotton (NH 44) using seven levels of K₂O (0, 120, 150, and 180 kg ha^-1 and each in split application, 1/2 at basal and 1/2 at 45 DAS) and two levels of ZnSO₄ (0, and 50 kg ha^-1) at Cotton Research Station Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. The results showed that the significantly higher average seed cotton (2313 kg ha^-1) and stalk (3208 kg ha^-1) yield were recorded with split application of potassium @150 kg ha^-1 (1/2 at basal and 1/2 at 30 DAS) and basal application of potassium @150 kg ha^-1, respectively. Whereas the significantly higher average seed cotton yield (2307 kg ha^-1) and stalk yield (3165 kg ha^-1) were recorded with application of ZnSO₄ @ 50 kg ha^-1. The interaction effect of K₁₈₀ × Zn₅₀ was also found significant on seed cotton yield (2496 kg ha^-1). The significantly higher values of bolls per plant (51.5), five boll weight (23.6g.), oil content (20.88 %), SFI (12.68), sympodial (12.07) and monopodial (2.75) branches per plant and plant height (108.5 cm) were observed with the basal application of potassium @ 150 kg ha^-1 (K₃). Maximum uptakes of K and Zn by seed cotton as well as stalk were recorded under application of 180 kg K₂O and 50 kg ZnSO₄ ha^-1, respectively.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on onion var. GWO-1 in medium black calcareous soils (Typic Ustocrepts) using fertility gradient approach and fertilizer prescription equation were calculated. The results of follow up trails indicated that the yields targets were achieved below ±10 per cent variation but adjusted fertilizer prescription equation were fitted only at yields targeted of 175 to 225 qha^-1 yield of onion. The income/cost ratio for the additional produce obtained over recommended dose 19.5 and 17.2 for onion bulb yield at targeted of 200 and 225 qha^-1, respectively.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on garlic var. GG-3 in medium black calcareous soils (Typic Ustocrepts) using fertility gradient approach and fertilizer prescription equation were calculated. The results of follow up trails conducted at different locations showed that yields targeted were achived below ± 10 per cent variation but adjusted fertilizer prescription equation were fitted only at yields targeted of 60 to 70 qha^-1 yield of garlic in the study. The income/cost ratio for the additional produce obtained over recommended dose 14.8 and 15.1 for garlic bulb yield at targets of 60 and 70 qha^-1, respectively.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 2004-05 and 2005-06 on medium black calcareous soil (Typic Ustocrepts) with cotton (G-cot-hy-10) using 5 levels of K (0, 90, 120, 150 and 180 kg ha^-1) and 3 levels of ZnSO₄ (0, 25 and 50 kg ha^-1). The significantly higher seed cotton (2345 kg ha^-1) and stalk (3679 kg ha^-1) yield of cotton were recorded with K₁₂₀ and K₁₈₀ treatments, respectively. Whereas the highest seed cotton yield (2269 kg ha^-1) and stalk yield (3540 kg ha^-1) were recorded with application of ZnSO₄ @ 50 kg ha^-1. The plant height (138.1 cm), boll weight (20.4 g) and oil content (18.52 %) were observed significantly higher with the application of potassium @ 120,150 and 180 kg ha^-1, respectively. While, number of bolls per plant, ginning percentage and test weight did not influence by potassium application. Application of zinc did not influence quality parameters except boll weight. The maximum uptake of K and Zn by seed cotton as well as stalk yield was recorded under application of 120 kg K₂O and 50 kg ZnSO₄ ha^-1, respectively.

Abstract

Based on field experiment conducted on a Vertic Ustocrepts with castor (GCH-6), by dividing each of the four fertility strip into 12 subplots which received 9 selected treatment combinations out of 5 levels of N (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 kg ha^-l), 5 levels of P₂O₅ (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, kg ha^-l) and 4 levels of K₂O (0, 30, 60, 90 kg ha^-l) with 3 control treatments, fertilizer prescription equations were calculated. The results of field verification trials, conducted at different locations showed that yield targets were achieved below ± 10 per cent variation except 40 q ha^-1, but adjusted fertilizer prescription equations were fitted at yield targets of 20 and 25 q ha^-1 seed yield of castor. The highest return was obtained in yield target 20 q ha^-1 followed by 25 q ha^-1.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on medium black calcareous clayey soils duing kharif 2005 to 2007 at Pulse Research Station, J.A.U. Junagadh in factorial RBD having four replications and eight treatment combinations consisting of four levels of S (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha^-1) and two levels of K₂O (0 and 50 kg ha^-1). The varieties sown were Vaishali for pigeonpea and GG-7 for groundnut. The grain (1189 and 1183 kg ha^-1) and fodder (2971 and 3024 kg ha^-1) yield of pigeonpea as well as pigeonpea equivalent yield (1761 and 1752 kg ha^-1) were obtained significantly higher under application of 40 kg S and 50 kg K₂O per hectare, respectively. The content and uptake of S and K by crop were increased significantly under irrespective application of sulphur and potash. Similarly, the soil availability of S and K was also increased significantly with increased respective levels of S and K.

Abstract

A lysimeter experiment was conducted in kharif 2006-07 and 2007-08 on medium black calcareous soils with four levels each of K (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg K₂O ha^-1) and S (0, 10, 20, 40 kg S ha^-1) in factorial CRD having three replications. The results revealed that the application of potassium and sulphur at varying levels significantly influenced on the seed cotton and stalk yield of cotton in both years as well as in pooled results and yield attributes. The significantly higher seed cotton (159g plant-1), stalk (267.5 g plant-1), number of bolls per plant (53.6), oil content (19.86 %) and ginning percentage (36.75) were recorded with highest level of K₁₅₀.Whereas, the higher seed cotton and stalk yield of cotton were recorded with S₂₀ and S₄₀ treatment, respectively. Simultaneously, the application of K and S increased their respective concentration and uptake by seed cotton and stalk of cotton and their soil availability.

Abstract

Pot culture experiment was conducted by using bulk soil samples collected from different Agricultural Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural university, Junagadh and were categorized as low, medium and high with respect to native soil fertility status of zinc. Three treatments with three replicated pots in each type of soil were imposed with common recommended levels of N and K and varied levels of Zn for Zn treatment experiment in the respective sets of pots under each of the low, medium and high fertility soils. Fertilization of zinc significantly increased seed cotton and stalk yields and Zn content in plant as well as in soil. The seed cotton yield response was 16.3 and 24.5 per cent at 5.0 and 10.0 mgkg^-1 Zn levels, respectively. Obviously, the yield response of cotton to added Zn was considerably higher in low Zn soils than in those of medium and high Zn status. The critical levels of available Zn 0.89 mgkg^-1 in soil and concentration of Zn in cotton 4^th leaf at 30 DAS and at maturity in leaf were found to be 57.5 and 24.6 mgkg^-1, respectively.

Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted under net house condition to study the effect of four levels of potassium (K₀, K₆₀, K₉₀ and K₁₂₀ mg Kkg^-1) on grain yield, dry weight of ischolar_main, ischolar_main volume, total ischolar_main length, nutrients content and inflow rate of nutrients in five wheat cultivars (Lok 1, GW 496, GW 273, GW 1139 and HI 8439) at different periods of wheat crop in factorial CRD with five replications. The grain yield of wheat was significantly increased due to application of potassium up to K90 treatment and further it was decreased with increased in level of K. Dry weight of ischolar_main and ischolar_main volume were significantly increased with increase in potassium levels up to 90 mg K kg^-1 at 100 DAS, but at 50 DAS, the ischolar_main volume was recorded maximum under K₁₂₀ treatment. Total ischolar_main length was significantly increased with increase in K level and found maximum with K₁₂₀ at all period of crop growth. The content of N, P, K, Ca, S, Fe, Mn and Zn in straw, ischolar_main and grain were decreased with advancement of crop growth and were increased significantly with K levels at all the periods of crop growth. However, the content of Ca in straw, ischolar_main and grain was significantly decreased with increasing potassium levels. Application of potassium significantly affected the inflow rate of N, P, K, Ca and S at 75 to 100 DAS and found maximum with K90 treatment. Similarly, inflow rate of P and Ca at 25 to 50 and 50 to 75 DAS were also significantly influenced due to the application of potassium. Inflow rate of Fe, Mn and Zn were affected significantly due to the application of potassiumon all the period of crop growth, except Mn at 50 to 75 DAS. The different varieties produced their significant effect on yield and inflow rate of nutrients at different period of crop growth.

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out on medium black calcareous soil for four years (2001-2004) on fixed plots at Vegetable Research Station, JAU, Junagadh with two levels of Zn (0 and 25 kg ZnSO4 ha^-1), three levels of K (0, 50 and 75 kg K₂O ha^-1 as muriate of potash) and their combinations (T₁ to T₆) and T₇ as FYM 20 t ha 1 in RBD with four replications. The pod and haulm yields of groundnut were significantly affected by the residual effect of Zn, K and FYM applied in individual years as well as in pooled, except haulm yield during 2002,2003 and in pooled. The average highest pod (2874 kg ha-1) yield was recorded with treatment combinations of Zn₂₅K₇₅ (T₆),which was 27 per cent higher pod yield over control (T₁). The significantly higher shelling percentage, test weight and oil content were recorded with treatment T₃, T₆ and T₇, respectively. Uptake of Zn and K by pod and haulm were significantly affected by the different treatments and were recorded highest with treatment T₆. Soil available K and Zn progressively increased with increasing levels of respective elements and found highest with treatment T₆.

Abstract

Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted to study the dry matter and nutrients accumulation pattern in wheat (GW-496) on clayey soil (vertic ustochrept) of Sagadividi Research Farm, College of Agriculture,Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. The maximum dry matter in plant (60.0 %) was accumulated during grain filling stage. Wheat straw showed higher accumulation of dry matter and nutrients, followed by grain and ischolar_mains. The removal of nutrients was recorded in the ranges of 5.2 to 13.6, 32.5 to 59.4 and 27.7 to 62.1 per cent to the its total requirement of different nutrients during vegetative, reproductive and grain filling stages, respectively. The peak absorption of N,K,P and Zn during grain filling stage, while that of Ca,Fe and Cu during reproductive stage and P,S and Mn almost equally during reproductive and grain filling stage.

Abstract

The residual effect of combined application of Zn₅₀ and K₈₀ resulted 32.1 per cent increased in pod yield of groundnut. Individual application of each levels of Zn,Fe and K had non significant residual effects on pod and haulm yield of groundnut in pooled results. Simultaneously, individual application of Zn, Fe and K increased their respective concentration and uptake by pod and haulm of groundnut.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in kharif during 2005 to 2007 with castor (Var.GCH 6) on medium black calcareous clayey (Typic Ustrocrepts) soils at Oilseed Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh with three levels, each of Zn (0,25 and 50kg ZnSO₄ ha^-1), and K (0,50 and 75 kg K₂O ha^-1) in factorial RBD having four replications reveled that the highest (2763 kg ha^-1) seed yields of castor was recorded with combined application of Zn₅₀ x K₇₅ , which was 48.5 per cent higher over (Zn₀ x K₀). Individual application of each levels of Zn and K had significant effect on seed and stalk yield of castor in individual year and as well as in pooled results. Simultaneously, individual application of Zn and K increased their respective concentration and uptake by seed and stalk of wheat and soil nutrient availability.
